PASTOR'S STATEMENT FOR SAFETY PROTOCOLS

Dear Parishioners,

Greetings of Grace and Peace!

I’m writing to inform you of the gradual public restoration of Sunday Masses which will begin on May 29, Friday, 5:30pm. As we resume public worship, our solemn gatherings will be measured. As always, the preservation and safeguarding of precious lives especially the vulnerable among us, is of utmost concern. While our spiritual and religious needs are essential, the significant risks involved in reopening must be taken into serious consideration. As we conduct necessary preparations, we will observe reasonable precautions by following proper health and safety recommendations to ensure that as you come back, the sacred space, the worship environment, your parish church, your home, is ready, safe and secure. Below is the detailed plan laid down for you. Please take time to read and meditate. If you have questions, concerns, suggestions and/or recommendations, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me. I can be reached at padre@douglascatholic.org.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  1. The Sunday Mass Obligation is suspended indefinitely for all persons living or visiting the Diocese of Tucson.
  2. Parishioners of the Catholic Community of Douglas-Pirtleville are dispensed from Sunday obligation.
  3. Parishioners who are over 65 years of age, considered as vulnerable persons, are strongly urged to remain at home and watch the parish livestreamed Mass.
  4. Healthy parishioners over 65 years of age who choose to attend Mass in spite of the above recommendation, may come to the Saturday afternoon Masses at 5:30pm and Sunday morning Masses at 6:30am. These are the Masses reserved for the senior (vulnerable) population. Please refer to the schedule of Masses below for details.
  5. Parishioners who have compromised immune system, that is, living with infected patients, are strongly urged to remain at home and watch the parish livestreamed Mass.
  6. Parishioners who are feeling sick or actually sick or experiencing symptoms of Covid-19, are strongly urged to remain at home and watch the parish livestreamed Mass.
  7. Be informed that regardless of your age or health conditions, attending Mass poses inherent health risks. A parishioner’s presence at mass constitutes his or her understanding and acceptance of this essential level of risk.

  8. Parishioners who are attending Sunday Mass, are required to wear face masks to prevent the potential spread of contagion.

     SCHEDULE OF MASSES

  1. The table below shows the expanded Schedule of Sunday Masses.
  2. Masses will be held in the church, parish hall, parking lot and Loretto School (west) yard in order to allow more time to disinfect the places of worship for upcoming services.

SUNDAY LITURGY

  1. Only the main door of the parish churches will be used for entrance and exit.
  2. During Mass, some church and hall doors will be propped open to allow ventilation while running AC and coolers.
  3. Attendance is a first-come, first- served basis.
  4. Once the churches reach capacity, a sign, “THE CHURCH IS NOW FULL”, will be placed outside the doors to be monitored by the ushers to avoid overflow.
  5. Couples of the same household and families of two or more of the same household may sit together in the pew.
  6. Only liturgical ministers below 65 years of age will be allowed to serve at the public celebration.
  7. All liturgical ministers will be asked to wash hands thoroughly in the sacristy before and after Mass.
  8. Two ushers will be assigned in each Mass to assist people to their seats.
  9. Two collection baskets for Sunday stewardship giving will be placed in the vestibule and will remain there for the whole duration of Mass. The collection baskets, then, will not be passed during offertory.
  10. Kindly place your Sunday sacrificial offering in the collection basket as you enter our places of worship. Thank you for kindness and generosity. May God reward you a hundredfold, deliver you from harm and keep loved ones safe and healthy.
  11. A simple bow is enough for the exchange of the sign of peace.
  12. There will be no holding of hands during the Lord’s Prayer.
  13. Holy Communion will only be administered on the hand.
  14. The priest presider/celebrant, the deacon and extraordinary ministers of Communion will administer Holy Communion after the final blessing and dismissal outside the church doors as people leave the premises.
  15. It’s a requirement to watch the livestreamed Mass before receiving Holy Communion.
  16. Healthy parishioners who opt to watch the livestreamed Mass and intend to receive Holy Communion after Mass, must be in the state of grace. A Special Minister of Holy Communion carrying the Eucharist (consecrated host) will come to each individual car in the respective parish parking lot. In order to receive Holy Communion, individuals will have to exit the car and stand by the car for the minister to give the Eucharist. Holy Communion will not be handed through open car windows except in extenuating circumstances such as handicapped/disabled persons.
  17. The Eucharist must be consumed in front of the minister.
  18. There will be a cantor in a number of Masses but no choir. Joining the cantor in singing is highly discouraged.
  19. Missalettes, music books and hymnals have been removed from the pews.
  20. FUNERALS AND WEDDINGS will be limited to more than 10 people until further notice.
  21. WEEKDAY MASSES will continue to be celebrated privately as scheduled and livestreamed at 8:00am, Monday – Friday (English) and 9:00am, Monday – Saturday (Spanish)

HEALTH, SAFETY AND CLEANING PROTOCOLS

  1. Before and after Mass, pews, tables, chairs, door knobs, restrooms, and Eucharistic vessels, will be thoroughly sanitized following diocesan cleaning protocols.
  2. Yellow caution tape has been placed in the church pews to ensure that the 6-foot physical distancing rule is observed.
  3. Mass goers are required to use hand sanitizers available in the vestibule in and out of the church, before and after the service.
  4. Mass goers may also bring their own hand sanitizers.

In the service of Christ, the Lord
